The Surrender Bridge smelt mill was built in 1839. It processed ore from the Surrender Mine, the Old Gang and other mines. There are remains of the furnace where firebrick are coated with a glassy slag. The covered flue can be traced up the hillside, where it once carried the poisonous fumes to a chimney.
