Yockenthwaite
The peaceful hamlet of Yockenthwaite.

Yockenthwaite, or 'Yokanwit' as it is known locally, is of Irish-Norse origin and means 'Eoghan's clearing.' The parish register of 1745 shows it as 'Yoke and White.' The hamlet once consisted of sixteen houses, an inn and a school.
